Search and Rescue Niagara

Uniform Requirements:

Search and Rescue Niagara uniform requirements for all members, to be worn at all times to Meetings, Trainings, and Searches are as follows:
  1. Black BDU Pants only
  2. Black SARN Shirt only
  3. Black Wicken Shirt (Polypropylene or Spandex/Cotton) alone, only if not wearing SARN shirt and wearing loadbearing vest
  4. Hiking or Military Boots only
  5. SARN Baseball cap or Boonie style hat only
  6. Hi Viz Jacket (if issued one) to be worn during inclement weather and if participating in a night search

NOTE: If requirements are not met at Trainings or Searches you will be asked to remain at the Command Post.

Please note that it is the responsibility of each member to keep his or her uniform clean and in good repair at all times. In the even that any part of the uniform is lost, stolen, or damaged beyond repair (fading included), it is to be replaced by the member at full replacement cost in a timely fashion. The way members present themselves to the public is a reflection of the professionalism the organization strives to maintain.

Mandatory Personal Equipment List:

  1. Search and Rescue OSARVA ID Card
  2. Safety vest
  3. Whistle
  4. Compass with base plate
  5. Minimum of 1 litre of water
  6. Lighter or waterproof matches
  7. Emergency candle
  8. Marking tape
  9. Pencil
  10. Notepad
  11. Waterproof flashlight with batteries
  12. Large green garbage bag
  13. Folding knife with locking blade
  14. Hiking boots
  15. Emergency blanket
  16. Any necessary medications
  17. Appropriate* outerwear for the weather conditions

*Appropriate clothing will be determined by the search captain, Chairman, Vice Chairman of Operations or the Vice Chairman of Training.

  • Extra socks, wool or polypropelene
  • Toque
  • Rain Jacket
  • Rain Pants
  • Gloves
